Donate Goods to Goodwill Industries of the Valleys to Make a Difference

Goodwill gladly accepts donations of clothing and household items including: accessories, toys, books, linens, furniture, computers-any brand, any condition, small appliances, and electronics.

Goodwill sells these donations in retail stores to generate needed revenue to operate Work and Training programs for people with disabilities and disadvantages.

When choosing what to donate to Goodwill, please give items that you would give a friend or what would likely sell in our stores. And remember, if you don t use it, don t need it, don t want it donate it!

Goodwill will no longer accept televisions

The revenues generated by the sale and recycling of donated goods helps to fund job training and employment programs in our community. The rising cost of recycling televisions is taking away from Goodwill’s ability to support our mission. Therefore, Goodwill will no longer be able to accept televisions. Other electronics, such as computers and related hardware and small appliances, will still be accepted and appreciated as these are able to be recycled responsibly while also providing critical revenue to support Goodwill’s mission. It is suggested that individuals wishing to dispose of a television should contact their local municipality for recycling or disposal options.

Items Goodwill Cannot Accept

  • Televisions
  • Major Appliances
  • Mattress or Box Springs
  • Cribs, Strollers, Playpens, Car Seats, Other Infant Furniture
  • Tires, Batteries
  • Paint, Chemicals, Cleaning or Gardening Chemicals
  • Kerosene or Gas Heaters
  • Upholstered Furniture that is torn, stained or soiled
  • Fuel Tanks, Gas Grill Tanks, Oxygen Tanks
  • Wet or Badly Stained Items
  • Garbage or Trash

Donate Your Vehicle

Your vehicle donation can help people in your community achieve the pride, dignity, and self respect that come from earning a paycheck.

Click here to begin the vehicle donation process. For more information on donating your vehicle to Goodwill call (800) 826.0980.

Donate Rehabilitative Equipment

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys and the Foundation for Rehabilitation Equipment Endowment (FREE) have developed a medical adaptive equipment recycling program. The goal of the program is to help people with disabilities become more independent through the collection, recycling, and distribution of mobility-related rehabilitative equipment. Greater mobility leads to functional independence and improved quality of life.

Goodwill retail stores are the collection point for donations of equipment. Donations are tax deductible and all donors will receive a receipt. The donated equipment will then be recycled through a process of sanitization, inspection and repairs. People with disabilities and disadvantages participating in Goodwill’s workforce development programs will perform the sanitization process while FREE will provide the technical staff to make any necessary equipment repairs. FREE will distribute the equipment to qualifying adults with medical and financial needs resulting from injuries or illnesses.

Your donations of gently used mobility-related equipment will not only provide a piece of needed equipment to an individual with a disability, but will also provide training and employment opportunities for Goodwill program participants.

For more information about the recycling program or to apply to receive an assistive device, contact FREE at:

Mobility-related equipment needed include*: power chairs, scooters, portable ramps, wheelchairs, tub benches, tub chairs, lift chairs, canes, toilet seats, bedside commodes, and walkers.

*The program cannot accept respiratory machines, communication devices, blood glucose monitors, lifts for vehicles, computers or other similar equipment.

Donations and Tax Deductions

Donors interested in claiming tax deductions should keep itemized lists of all donations. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires donors to value their items allowing tax payers to deduct the fair market value of each item.

To help guide you, a link to Goodwill’s Valuation Guide is below. Prices are only estimated values, and assume that the items are in good used condition or better. For additional information a link to the IRS Publication 561 – Determining the Value of Donated Property is also below, or visit the IRS online .

All vehicles donated to Goodwill are resold through Goodwill’s Auto Auction. Revenue generated by the donation and sale of these vehicles helps Ohio Valley Goodwill provide rehabilitation, training and employment services to individuals with either disabilities or social and economic barriers to employment.

Ohio Valley Goodwill operates the entire car donation and auction process. One hundred percent of the revenue generated by the auction remains with Goodwill to help provide funding for our services.

By donating a vehicle to Ohio Valley Goodwill you become eligible for a TAX ADVANTAGE while helping to support Goodwill’s mission. Before you donate, however, there are some things you need to know.

  • Donors may claim the Goodwill sale price of the vehicle. IRS guidelines for charitable contributions can be found at the IRS website www.irs.gov or by calling 1-800-829-1040. If you have any questions about your deduction, contact your tax professional.
  • Donors receive a receipt from Goodwill for tax purposes. You should take several photographs of the vehicle before donating. This gives you documented evidence of the car’s condition. Keep the photographs and your vehicle’s maintenance records for several years following the donation. Goodwill will ask you to sign an Odometer Disclosure Statement. Your signed copy can help you verify the vehicle’s condition.

Giving your car, boat, motorcycle or RV to Ohio Valley Goodwill is a donor-friendly process. Give us your information below and one of our friendly Auto Auction staff members will contact you for details on our donation process.

Ohio Valley Goodwill and the Superior Automotive Group, Mike Albert Direct are working together to provide automotive-only designated Drop Sites to benefit the residents of Greater Cincinnati. Learn more

Testimonials

Not gonna lie, this is hands down the best Goodwill I ve ever walked into. – Emily T. on Goodwill in The Heights, www.yelp.com

I love this location. I drove from Spring after reading some of the reviews about this Goodwill. And I must say it was worth the drive! I walked out with 5 blouses/cardigans all name brand and almost new condition and some home decor in perfect condition for under $50. I found my favorite Goodwill! As well as the one of Sawdust in The Woodlands. It is a little time consuming looking through everything. Be prepared to spend 2 hours or more in this store 🙂 – Erica L. on Goodwill in the The Heights, www.yelp.com

The store is very clean and organized. I really was just strolling through on a lazy Saturday. Bought 3 books for $4.50 – can t beat that! – Leena C. on Goodwill in The Heights, www.yelp.com

I went to Goodwill again today to find a black button up and left with three other items. All for under $28. I cannot express how amazing this Goodwill is. – Mercedes P. on Goodwill in The Heights, www.yelp.com

Excellent Goodwill for Men s clothes. Large selection of shirts, shorts, T s, sportswear, jackets. Some very good bargain finds here. – Alden G. on Goodwill in The Heights, www.yelp.com

Oh, this is too good it is bad. As many Houstonians know, the Heights are known for our teeny tiny closets. Which makes this Goodwill a gold mine. There is soooo many good things at this goodwill. I often walk in and walk across Jimmy Choo and Cole Haan shoes. And then I wish that I wore a size 6 shoe. The staff is very friendly and are always organizing. This is by far my favorite goodwill in the Houston area! – Terah K. on Goodwill In The Heights, www.yelp.com

Goodwill Southwest Florida: Tax-deductible donations to Goodwill #unwanted #furniture

#tax deductible donations

Tax Information

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means donations to Goodwill are often tax-deductible. IRS guidelines for charitable contributions are available on IRS Publication 526 or by calling toll-free 1-800-829-1040.

Deducting Your Donation

  • Only taxpayers who itemize (use the long form) can deduct charitable donations.
  • Save all of your paperwork.
  • Always consult a tax accountant if you have questions about your claim.

    Retail Donations:

    • For donated items worth less than $500, you are expected to provide the “fair market value” of the items when filing your tax return. The “fair market value” of a donated item can vary greatly. If you bought a new shirt for $40 a decade ago, then donated it to a charity that resold it for $3.99, then its “fair market value” is $3.99, not $40. Visit Goodwill Industries International’s valuation guide for estimated values of commonly donated items.
    • When filling out your donation receipt, please try to include as much information as possible about the type and quantity of your donated items. Trying to claim $400 for “one bag of clothes” is a red flag to auditors.
    • If you believe your donation is worth more than $500, you must submit an IRS Form 8283 with your tax filing. The IRS will also require a professional appraisal for these items. The cost of the appraisal may also be deductible as a miscellaneous expense.

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc.’s registration # is CH1930. A COPY OF THE OFFICIAL REGISTRATION AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE DIVISION OF CONSUMER SERVICES BY CALLING TOLL-FREE 1-800-435-7352 WITHIN THE STATE OF FL.REGISTRATION DOES NOT IMPLY ENDORSEMENT, APPROVAL, OR RECOMMENDATION BY THE STATE.
