The ACVS Foundation has several methods of giving that may be of interest to you. Your contributions are always appreciated, and we believe, as we hope you do, that the ACVS Foundation is a worthy investment. On behalf of the ACVS Foundation Board of Trustees, we thank you for your support!

The ACVS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made online by credit card or by downloading the ACVS Foundation contribution form.

For more information about any of these programs, contact the ACVS Foundation at 301-916-0200 x110, [email protected]

Planned Giving

A planned gift to the ACVS Foundation can provide the resources to continue to create extraordinary advances in veterinary surgery and animal health care. There is a variety of philanthropic strategies that you can consider such as leaving a portion of your estate to the ACVS Foundation or naming the ACVS Foundation as a beneficiary of charitable gifts or a life insurance policy. Planned gifts help secure the ACVS Foundation s future support of education and research.

To learn more about planned giving contact the ACVS Foundation at 301-916-0200, ext. 110.

Honor a Mentor Program

Undoubtedly, there is an ACVS Diplomate who has been influential in your life. This feeling is likely shared by others within the ACVS. In appreciation of this special relationship, the ACVS Foundation is pleased to offer you the opportunity to say thank you to the person who has helped pave the way for your success today.

Honor a Past ACVS President

Show your appreciation to a past ACVS President who mentored or guided your career. Donating to the Past Presidents Conference Room pays tribute to those persons who have helped continue ACVS s commitment as the recognized leader in veterinary surgery.

Pet and Equine Memorial Program

The loss of a beloved animal is difficult for everyone. A personalized memorial card to the animal owner can show just how much you understand and empathize with the loss. The ACVS Foundation s Pet and Equine Memorial Program provides an ACVS Diplomate the opportunity to honor the beloved animal by making a monetary donation in the name of the animal. This simple, yet thoughtful gesture reassures your client and referring veterinarian that their animal was cared for by the skilled and caring hands of an ACVS Diplomate committed to the mission of the ACVS Foundation to advance surgical care of all animals.

How does it work?

Following a monetary donation of $125, five professionally pre-printed memorial cards and envelopes are sent to the Diplomate or practice of the Diplomate. Using provided templates, the Diplomate or practice personalizes the card and envelope with the name of the animal, card sender, and referring veterinarian, mails the card to the animal owner, and informs the referring veterinarian. It is that simple! Your support of this program provides the ACVS Foundation with valuable resources to continue to support research and education to advance surgical care of animals.

Fundraising Event at the ACVS Surgery Summit

The Foundation s largest fundraising event takes place annually in conjunction with the ACVS Surgery Summit. This event includes a silent auction and a raffle. All proceeds support the ACVS Foundation s valuable work to improve the healthcare of animals and the research and educational mission of the ACVS.

Recurring Donations

Help improve the surgical healthcare of all animals by establishing a convenient, automatic, monthly donation to the ACVS Foundation. Recurring donations are tax deductible and benefit the Foundation by providing a reliable source of support to fund leading-edge research and education. Make a recurring donation online designated specifically for research and education support or to support the Foundation s greatest need. You can also download the recurring donation form and email, fax, or mail it to the ACVS Foundation, and we will take care of the rest!

A world in which all children have the chance to go to school.

The UWS Mission

To improve educational opportunities for some of the world s poorest children living in remote and marginalised communities.

15,000 children in school

UWS has already brought education to more than 15,000 children who would not otherwise have had the chance to go to school.

UWS and Kings Education: Big Changes Need to Start with Small Actions

LEGO: Inspiring the Builders of Tomorrow

Why we do what we do

The key numbers and what it means on the ground

59 million children have no access to a basic primary education

Of these children, 25 million are in the rural, low-income, post-conflict regions that UWS targets

At the same time international aid to basic education has been falling since 2010

And less than 1/3 of the aid is allocated to low-income countries

If all children in low income countries achieved basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty

Due to the poor provision of basic education there are 774 million illiterate adults in the world today

Education charity

Education charity

Education charity

Without a basic education, the children we work with have little chance of climbing out of the poverty they were born into

They’re stuck in a cycle of poverty, at a greater risk of malnutrition, illness and disease

Education is the key to unlocking a country’s potential for economic growth, improved health, gender equality, peace and good governance

UWS in numbers:

children have had the opportunity to attend a UWS school since 2008

locally based teachers are employed and receive regular training, supported by UWS

UWS school development projects across Cambodia, Nepal and Myanmar

Operating costs remaining low; most schools cost less than US$1 per child per week

Why is UWS different?

We work where we’re wanted and needed

UWS insist on buy-in from both the state and the local community before we start

We plan our exit from the outset

Once a school is successful and self-governing it is handed over to the local community, becoming part of the country’s education system

Our UWS School has had a huge effect on the village. It gives us hope for the future, hope for our children and hope for our community.”

Katcham Village, Cambodia

“Our long term plan is clear. Once the schools are successful, self-managed and sustainable, we hand them over to the local community and state education system.”

UWS Management Team

We offer exceptional value for money investment

We work in areas where a small cost can make a big impact, providing education for as little as $1 per child per week.

We form global education partnerships to fund each school

UWS match each school with more affluent partner schools to fund the school build and ongoing support

“Having seen the schools and been personally involved, what struck me was how much is being delivered for so little – it’s one of the best value for money development opportunities I’ve ever seen.”

UWS Volunteer and Donor

“UWS Cambodia has empowered our students to take part in something that is real… they see the difference they make, and take pride in it.”

Teacher, Red Maids’ School

UWS Hang Svart School

The village of Hang Svart in located in the Stung Treng Province of Cambodia (GPS co-ordinates: 13 32 44 N 106 3 23 E). It s partnered with The Falcons School for Girls.

UWS Kiri Bah Ler School, Cambodia

UWS Kiri Bah Ler School opened in late 2015 and is located in the Stung Treng region of Cambodia. It is sponsored by Witham Hall School in the UK.

UWS Sa Mor Krau School, Cambodia

UWS Sa Mor Krau opened in 2015. It is located in the Stung Treng region of Cambodia and partnered with Cambridge Education Group.

We transform lives

Education charity

Nang Ron, 10 years old

“My mother died some years ago when she gave birth; the baby also died. Now my older sister takes care of me. My father works on the farm. My sister and I help him in the fields and look after the chicken.”

“Other families have motos, but we don’t. We save all we have for our daily life. When I learn in school I will help my father to earn money. Then I will buy my family a motorbike. I like school and I cannot wait until it starts at the end of the rainy season.”

As well as developing her own abilities, being a UWS pupil will help Nang to realise her dream of providing a motorbike for her family. By learning the skills needed to communicate and work outside of her village, Nang will be able to help her family prosper when she is older.

Background

For children raised in low-income homes, higher education often seems unattainable. These students don’t always have the motivation to apply to college or don’t think it’s a realistic option.

By providing mentors as motivation to go to university or to help with tutoring, nonprofits and their volunteers can make a huge impact on a student.
