Donate – Stuff – • My Stuff Bags Foundation, New Beginnings for Children in
Your donations help us deliver My Stuff Bags to waiting children. Please donate now or call the Foundation at 866.3MY.STUFF.
You can help fill My Stuff Bags with new children’s items by enlisting family, friends and coworkers to collect and send as many as possible of the items below, or any other children’s items that would fit in a mid-sized duffel. Items must be new, non-violent, and non-denominational. No food or candy, please. We need items for children from infants to teens.
Here’s a list of suggestions to get you started:

- School supplies and stationery
- Small toiletries: travel-size toothbrush/toothpaste, hotel soap and shampoo etc
- Items for teens/tweens: games, young-adult books, deodorant, makeup, trading cards

How to Donate Clothing to Charity
Everyone has things in their closets that they haven’t worn in years. But something you don’t love anymore could be another person’s new favorite outfit! To avoid throwing clothes away or having them clutter up your house, donate them to charities. Pick the right spot to drop off your clothes, decide what to donate, and ready your clothing for donation to make sure your items are put to good use for years to come.

NEAS’ kennel staff and volunteers work 365 days a year, caring for about 100 pets each day. They are always preparing special food for dogs and cats who don’t want to eat, keeping the kennel spaces very clean, gently handling many frightened animals, and providing medical care. NEAS’ adoption counselors work tirelessly to place each pet with a carefully matched adopter. Our work is hard. It can be very emotional at times.
It is so heartwarming to see a local family come to our adoption center and be united with a furry family member. I will never tire of seeing a newly adopted pet, leaving with her or his new forever family – adults and children smiling, dogs’ tails wagging, cats purring.
With each pet’s life that we save, a caring adopter will take home a new best friend who they will love and cherish. Most of these pets were facing euthanasia, and are now beloved members of local families.

How to Donate
Being a job creator is easy! Just follow these three steps.
Step 1: Gather Your Stuff
Walk around your home and collect items you and your family no longer need — that shirt that’s been hanging in the back of your closet for three years, the toy trike your five-year old has outgrown, the holiday gift from grandma you never quite found a place for, etc.
Step 2: Give Them a Look Over
Donating items that are in working condition, contain all of their pieces and parts, and are free of stains and rips is the best way to ensure that your goods do the most good. While we accept most clothing and household items, there are a few things we can’t accept – such as items that have been recalled, banned or do not meet current safety standards. In addition, if you’re looking to donate specialty items such as computers, vehicles or mattresses, it’s best to give your local Goodwill organization a call first to find out any rules or restrictions around these items.
Step 3: Go to Goodwill
Ready to drop off your items? Just use our locator at the top of the page or on our homepage and check the box for “Donation Site” to find your nearest Goodwill drop-off location. Donating a lot of items? Some Goodwills offer donation pickup services – give yours a call to find out what’s available in your area.
Each year, we also get together with our partners to offer unique donation drives, giving you the chance to drop off your items at retail stores, college campuses and more. Stay tuned to this space for information about new opportunities to donate through our partners.
SPECIAL NOTE: Donation Bins
While we invite you to visit one of Goodwill s many attended donation centers, we understand that donation bins may represent a more convenient option for your donation needs. Unfortunately, many goods that wind up in donation bins end up supporting for-profit groups, rather than aiding nonprofit, charitable organizations. To help you make informed donation decisions, we offer the following handy guide.
How You Help
When you donate to Goodwill, you’ve taken the opportunity to become a job creator and make a significant difference in the lives of individuals living in your community. After you drop off your shirts, shoes, blankets, electronics and other items, we sell them in one of our more than 3,200 Goodwill stores or on our online auction site, shopgoodwill.com. When someone buys your item, we use that money to fund job training and other services.
Maximizing the value of your donations is important to us. In 2016, we used 87 percent of the revenue generated through your donated stuff to support and grow programs that result in significant social impact for your community members in need of work.
Want to know just how much good your donations are doing? After you drop off your items at Goodwill, use our Donation Impact Calculator [available in the Goodwill locator] to calculate the number of hours of career counseling, on-the-job training, résumé preparation and other services you’ve helped provide.
Your donations are good for the planet as well. Dell Reconnect, a partnership between Goodwill and Dell, has kept more than 324 million pounds of computer electronics out of the landfills since 2004.
And finally, a word of warning: some thrift stores solicit donations under the name of a charity, but as little as five percent of the money generated from these donations may actually go to the charity. Find out more (PDF) about the charities you’d like to support before making a donation.

Leveling the Playing Field gives underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports participation. We do this through the donation of used and excess sporting equipment to programs and schools serving low-income communities. Our donations allow programs to allocate funds saved by lowering registration fees, expanding their scholarship programs, enhancing their existing athletic program and/or developing new ones.
Through our sport equipment donations, we are able to maximize the benefits of participating in sports by allowing athletic programs to utilize their sports equipment funds elsewhere within their organization. The LPF recipients allocate the funds saved by lowering registration fees, expanding their scholarship programs, enhancing their existing athletic programs and/or developing new ones.
In just 5 years we have donated over $2M worth of sporting equipment to 400+ programs. Our success has been accelerated by the strong partnerships we have developed with equipment donors throughout the DMV.

What Should I Do With Professional Attire I No Longer Need?
Have you decided to revamp your work wardrobe and found that you have some suits and other business clothing you no longer need? Before you start tossing everything in the trash, consider donating new or gently used items to an organization that will give it to people who can t afford to purchase job interview and work attire.
People who are in dire financial need find themselves in a terrible predicament.
They want to work, but they can t get one because they don t have the money to buy the right clothing to wear to job interviews. In addition to distributing professional clothing to job seekers, these organizations also provide other services including job search assistance. Most also welcome monetary donations.
Organizations That Accept Donations of Business Suits and Other Work Attire
- Dress for Success: This national organization distributes women s business suits and other professional clothing to women around the country. Each client receives a suit, shoes, and accessories to wear on job interviews. Those who get hired receive appropriate workplace attire. You can bring unwanted interview-appropriate suits, separates, shoes, accessories, unused undergarments, and unopened cosmetics to a local Dress for Success affiliate. Some also accept coats. - Career Gear: This organization, which distributes interview and work-appropriate clothing to men, is based in New York City and has affiliates in Houston; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Miami; and Jersey City, New Jersey. You can bring your donations to the New York City office or a local affiliate on specified dates, or ship them. Please visit the Career Gear Website for further information.
- Alliance of Career Development Nonprofits (ACDN): The ACDN is a network of nonprofit organizations around the United States that provide career development services to women, men, and teens. Many distribute workplace attire to their clients. Search for a member organization by state and contact it directly to find out what items it will accept and how to send your donation.
- Local Organizations: You can also find local organizations by typing your city or town and career clothing donation into your favorite search engine. Also, try contacting local organizations like outreach agencies at houses of worship, food banks, and shelters for the homeless or victims of domestic violence.
Deciding What to Donate
Not every piece of clothing you no longer need is worthy of donating to one of the organizations listed above. While their clients need to dress up for interviews and work, they must wear clothing that will allow them to make a good impression on employers. Volunteers spend a lot of time sorting through donations. Help them out by keeping the following things in mind:
- While the organizations understand not all donated attire will be brand new, it should be no more than gently used. All items should be in excellent condition. They must not be frayed, faded, or stained.
